All summer a grand fire trine with Saturn, Uranus, and the North Node has been urging us toward inspired, long term plans and creative projects. This week, Venus activates this fire trine, first trining Saturn and then Uranus. Venus brings harmony and connections. Perhaps this is the week when you connect with the people who will help you achieve your big dreams. Mercury conjuncts Mars on the 16th brings in another piece of the eclipse story and offers forward movement on whatever Mercury retrograde has us ruminating on.
Set your intention, Prophetess, for these are the days of the primal feminine dark when the holy veil is so thin you can hear your grandmother’s ghost shouting for you to listen and listen closely. The waning Harvest Moon is a fertile time for ancestral communion and spirit guide work; all of nature is calling you into the shadowy mists and bidding you become the hooded wolf-woman of your dreams, begging you to resurrect the parts of the ethereal, omniscient feminine that have been objectified and oppressed. Your intuition is heightened, and you embody the Crone-Priestess archetype in your magick, your divination, and your so valuable, so sacred work. Know that your guides are not tools to be used, nor is their advice to be blindly followed without your keen discernment. Respect these wise ones who have chosen to hold you with their spectral hands while you walk this soul’s path in this body, show them that you hear them, and hone one of the deepest and most potent forms of your Craft under Autumn’s Witching Moons.
We have a beautiful Full Moon in Pisces this week, exactly conjunct to Neptune which doubles the Piscean flavour: this is creative, romantic, dreamy, and mystical. Make sure you take some time this week to slow down and enjoy these sweet Piscean vibes. The Full Moon is inconjunct Venus in Leo, which asks for a minor adjustment in our relationships or financial situation, or perhaps our relationships to pleasure. Even amidst the romance and dreaminess, seek a more realistic understanding of the situation. Mercury stations direct this week, so stay tuned for insight around the meaning of this past few weeks of Mercury retrograde.
I love everything about smudging, from choosing what plant I’ll use to lighting the bundle, to experiencing the smoke medicine. Will I use the soft vanilla of Sweetgrass, or the earthiness of Palo Santo? Each wood, plant or resin burns differently, cleanses differently–even the way the smoke behaves as it hangs in the air or swirls in the space is enchanting and specific to its particular owner.
Inhale. Feel it fill you. Spirit charges every part of you. It’s intoxicating. You are a being of light. You stand between the worlds; a being of magick. Stand strong. You are whole. You are loved. Now, with your heart full and open speak words that come from your soul. Let them dance across your lips with ease, yet full of power. The air that we breathe in, the air we exhale, the air we form into speech is as much Spirit as anything else. It’s a powerful tool for it is pure element. It is all around us and within. Always. It is one of our very first experiences as we leave the womb. It carries us from this world to the next as we make our last exhale. This breath carries our soul. It is scientific fact that at the last exhale of our life, the physical body loses weight.
“The mind is not a vessel to be filled but a fire to be kindled” – Plutarch
As the school year approaches, students and parents become busy in the bustle of back-to-school preparation from shopping, extracurricular activities, or just getting back into a more structured day after the holiday break. It is easy for life to become frenzied and demanding.
As the eclipse energy continues to ripple through the collective, I hope you continue to receive insight around your purpose, your big dreams, your long term plans. The eclipse story isn’t over yet. While the Sun has moved on into Virgo, Mars and Mercury make a conjunction at the end of this week (September 3rd) right on the eclipse degree, reactivating the eclipse themes. And with Mercury still retrograde, we don’t yet have all the information. Mars conjunct Mercury on this degree speaks to courageously, boldly, going after your biggest dreams, speaking your truth, and sharing your vision with others, even as the details are still falling into place.
Wow, what a momentous week! Your horoscopes this week cover how this important total solar eclipse is likely to affect you. The light of the sun is blocked at a solar eclipse, offering an opportunity to sever the flow of energy that has fed patterns and relationships that no longer align with our destiny. The eclipse is an opportunity to reset. To tie the cords in a different place. To feed energy into new patterns that we choose with intention. Keep in mind that as the sun is blocked and mercury is retrograde, it’s likely that we don’t yet have all the information. If possible, stay flexible in your plans until mid-September. Keep in mind also, that in times of change, there is necessarily disorder, even chaos, in order to allow a new order to emerge. Let chaos be an opportunity to envision the future you desire. I’ve been on holiday in France for the past month; my husband is a French citizen so I spend quite a bit of time in France every year visiting his family. Throughout my travels here, I have fallen in love with the mythos of the Black Madonna/Virgin or as they say in French la vierge noire. These are usually statues of the holy mother and child that were found under miraculous circumstances; resulting in the development of a local cult for their worship. They are found all over the world ( Virgin of Guadalupe -Hidalgo is an example many North Americans may be familiar with) but France is thought to have the highest proportion of them with over 300 in existence. What makes them unusual is that they have black or dark skin color, hence the name. It is also interesting to note that the Catholic church has absolutely denied their existence and when it does acknowledge them, such as in the case of the Black Madonna of Czestochowa, they claim that they are only black due to soot damage.
